As a Customer Engineer, AI, you will help educate and even inspire our customers on what they can achieve with data and AI. Working alongside the growth team, you’ll play a key role in understanding their business challenges and identifying where Datatonic can add value. You will lead the technical aspects of our sales activity including identifying, qualifying & ultimately scoping new opportunities. You will be the technical point of contact for our customers, seeing through Datatonic solutions from first discovery conversations, technical architecture design, partnership engagements, proof of concept builds, and production implementation of world-class data science and engineering solutions.


  • Manage the technical aspects of pre-sales activity including:
    • Qualifying new opportunities from a technical perspective
    • Understanding customer technical requirements
    • Translating the customer’s technical requirements into a written solution / proposal
    • Resolving technical roadblocks to kick-off (including data & security issues)
  • Be the go-to technical point of contact for our key accounts from pre-sales through to closeout
  • Work closely with Datatonic’s Sales & Strategy Teams to:
    • Map out the opportunities with new and existing accounts
    • Contribute to articulating Datatonic’s current and future value proposition and solution offering
    • Develop the technical aspects of sales & marketing collateral
  • Build relationships with the Technical Sales Teams at our Strategic Partners (i.e. Google Cloud, Snowflake, Intel, DoIT) in order to drive awareness & engagement with Datatonic’s services


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Background as an ML Engineer, data scientist, or software engineer with a focus on AI and ML.
  • Proven experience in presales activities or working as an 'internal consultant' responsible for assessing technical requirements and scoping solutions.
  • Able to talk persuasively about how AI and data can be used to solve problems, and able to think creatively about how these can be applied to a particular client's needs.
  • Highly credible in dealing with senior stakeholders, with exceptional communication skills, and the ability to 'translate' complicated concepts to their essence.
  • Comfortable working with Python e.g. experience with the Python data ecosystem including Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-learn; exposing ML components through web services or wrappers (e.g. Flask in Python); or delivering code in well-tested CI/CD pipelines.
  • Good knowledge of SQL
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (GCP, AWS, Azure).
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
